Borderline Personality Disorder is likely caused and exacerbated by severe long-term narcissistic abuse. Often, a BPD's symptoms will worsen when surrounded by toxic abusive manipulators, and lesson when surrounded by kind empathic people. I think recovery is possible for those diagnosed with BPD. In my opinion, the first step, for the BPD target, is to go no contact with both their primary and secondary narcissistic abusers. Borderline Personality Disorder is the narcissist's creation that bites back! If you are an abusive narcissist or sadistic sociopath messing with a borderline, -- be afraid, be very afraid! Externalized BPD rage is REACTIVE and triggered when there is a real or perceived external threat. In contrast, Narcissistic and Sociopathic violence is PREDATORY and PREMEDITATED. The BPD's impulsivity is fueled by pure unadulterated emotion. The BPD's unpredictable nature is the BPD's advantage over the predictability of the narcopath. BPD's typically attack internally via self-harm, but many BPD's will fight back when being abused. In contrast, narcissists exclusively exploit and attack externally. In my opinion, when a narcissistic sociopath becomes extremely abusive, the borderline will deliver a smack down. If anyone can bring an NPD or sociopath to their knees, it is a severely abused BPD acting out in self-defense. I also think the borderline is the only cluster B with empathy and the capacity to recover. Unlike the narcissist, I think Borderlines can and do recover in healthy environments, surrounded by kind people. Borderline Personality Disorder is the narcissist's creation that bites back. In general, I think NPD is worse than BPD, because borderlines understand that you are an individual. In contrast, narcissists only view you as an empty shell for them to project their delusions off of. Narcissists do not view you as an independent person, but only a projection of a fantasy they have created in their own mind. Narcissists are much harder to negotiate with because they are only concerned with getting stoned off of narcissistic supply. Narcissists are the ones who are always bordering on psychosis! Narcissists will not negotiate with you, because maintaining their delusions at all times is the priority. Borderlines in the recovery process are capable of staying grounded in reality when surrounded by kind loving people. But narcissists will not let go of their delusions, even when surrounded by good honest people. Narcissist's are hardcore addicts, addicted to procuring narcissistic supply. Borderlines are often the narcissist's scapegoat, but when pushed too far, the borderline will fight back and destroy their narcissistic creator. Only a small percentage of BPD's transition into a dangerous psychotic rage, and in my opinion, this is usually when a BPD is surrounded by narcissists and being pounded with severe narcissistic abuse. In general, the majority of BPD's are not dangerous or a physical threat to kind people. BPD's often isolate and self-abuse. Narcissists never isolate and they do not self-abuse, unless they are putting on a "show." Narcissists actively and purposely abuse targets physically, emotionally, and financially. The emotional abuse that others experience from a BPD is not active but passive/collateral. Narcissistic abuse is intentional, calculated, and premeditated. In general, the narcissist is the true predator, not the BPD.
*When a BPD switches from self-harm to actively harming others in a calculated premeditated manner, this is when I reclassify the BPD as an active abuser, and at that point, I have to consider the possibility they are not BPD, but a narcissist or sociopath trying to game me.
