A Day in Chiayi, Taiwan

This video is an overview of the attractions in Chiayi, in south central Taiwan. Chiayi County is famous for Alishan, a mountain resort that is a 90 minute drive east of the city of Chiayi. Due to the abundance of valuable hardwood trees in its nearby mountains, Chiayi developed around the lumber industry in the late 19th and early twentieth centuries. There are historic reminders of this in Hinoki Village, a collection of restored Japanese style houses, and the adjacent Alishan Forestry Park. If you have time, there is a train line from Chiayi up to Alishan. See the links below for more information on all of these attractions.

Most of the attractions in this video are concentrated in one area of town and can be seen on foot. The exception is the Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum, which is in Taibao City, 10 km west of town. Happy travels!
