Designing a Historically Accurate Disney Jane Porter Costume | Victorian, 1880s

Hello everyone and welcome to a new video!

Today we are revisting one of my first costumes in a new light. I first started with cosplay, but as soon as I got into historical costume, I knew I wanted to do some historically inspired Disney costumes. I tried this once before, when I made my 1890s Elsa teagown, based on her purple nightdress from Frozen 2. This time I am tackling Jane Porter, from Disney's Tarzan (1999). Jane was a costume I was really proud of, and a character I love. I am so excited to be doing this spin on her! So this first video is about the design of the costume, how to turn a cartoon into a physical costume using Victorian patterns and techniques. I find fashion plates really helpful for this, since there are so many with so many different styles. I talked through the 1880s style, some of the concept art, and finally which patterns and fabrics I'll be using (spoilers: it's a lot of Truly Victorian and some gorgeous silk).
