Timetravelfootage to Kabul in 1975 shows how the Afghan capital has changed. At that time, the modern districts were spacious, such as Jadi Maiwand Avenue, and Pashtunistan Square with its fountain, which offers welcome refreshment to many. The Khyber Restaurant was located in this square, where one could dine in a refined yet inexpensive manner. The Kabul River hardly carried any water since it was dammed outside the city. Carpet dealers were waiting for customers on the riverbank, and fruit, vegetables and other daily necessities were on sale in the surrounding bazaar streets.

The wealthy lived in the new town of Shar-e-Nau, and the range of stores and goods here was correspondingly wide.
In Chicken Street and the Green Door Bazaar there were handicrafts, junk, and upscale hippie supplies.
