1. North Korea tests mid-range missiles
North Korea is believed to have test-fired two Musudan missiles on Thursday morning. At least one of the launches is reported to have been a failure. The Musudan missile has a range of 3,500 kilometres, potentially allowing Pyongyang to hit targets as far as the US military base of Guam

India has sent a Letter of Request to purchase US patrol drones to ensure security in the Indian Ocean region India says it needs to equipment to secure the country's maritime assets and combat terrorists. Billionaire Elon Musk is looking to merge Tesla Motors and his solar installation firm SolarCity Corp in a deal worth 2.8 billion US dollars. Musk says the deal will create a single "end-to-end" clean energy company that would provide consumers with everything from solar power, batteries to electric cars

5. McDonald's to sell China, HK stores
Over half a dozen buyers have lined up after McDonalds announced a plan to sell its stores in China and Hong Kong. The fast-food giant has decided to offer a 20-year master franchise agreement to buyers in a deal that is being valued at 3 billion US dollars

6. Jaguar killed after posing with Olympic torch
A jaguar was shot dead in Brazil shortly after it posed for photographs with the Olympic torch. The eight-year-old animal, named Juma, had escaped from a zoo and is said to have attacked a military official. The Amazonian Environmental Protection Institute is investigating the incident
