The 2009 New Brunswick 12-Man football championship played in Moncton, New Brunswick at Rocky Stone Memorial Field.

This championship game featured the longest known rivalry in New Brunswick high school sports, the Moncton High Purple Knights taking on their rivals just down Mountain road, the Harrison Trimble Trojans. These two teams had not met each other in a provincial final in 23 years, back in 1986 when the Harrison Trimble Trojans downed the Knights 22-20.

The Purple Knights had already won two previous meetings versus the Trojans during regular season play, a 31-0 drubbing early in the season, and a 13-12 victory in what turned out to be a barn burner, come-from-behind victory for the Knights in the annual Homecoming Game played every Thanksgiving weekend, their first Homecoming win in 7 years.

Moncton High had been a tough opponent all year, only losing one game all regular season, and defeating the Riverview Royals in playoff game 1, then hosting the perennial powerhouse Fredericton Black Kats in their semi-final game played in Moncton, winning that game 17-6 to advance to the championship game, while Harrison Trimble just made the playoffs at the number 4 seed, downing the defending champion Bernice Macnaughton Highlanders in their first playoff game, then beating the Saint John High Greyhounds in the cross over semi-final.

Moncton High was looking to win their 1st title in close to 7 years, the last time they were winners was back in 2002. Trimble was also looking for their first title since 2001.
