TEXAS DANCEHALL STANDARDS: Lee Roy Matocha / Mountain Valley Waltz / Sarg 246 / early 1970s

Описание к видео TEXAS DANCEHALL STANDARDS: Lee Roy Matocha / Mountain Valley Waltz / Sarg 246 / early 1970s

This is the Czech folk song and waltz “Na šumavě je dolina” with the following lyrics:
Na Šumavě je dolina a v té dolině kalina
…..(There is a valley in Šumava, and in that valley a viburnum)
Vyletěl z hory bílý pták, proč si, má milá, smutná tak
…..(A white bird flew out of the mountain, why are you so sad, my dear)
Proč bych já smutná nebyla, když jsem milého ztratila
…..(Why wouldn't I be sad when I lost a loved one?)
Ztratila jsem ho v dolině, on mi tam usnul na klíně.
…..(I lost him in the valley, he fell asleep on my lap there.)
A když se ze snu probudil, tichounce ke mně promluvil
…..(And when he awoke from his dream, he spoke softly to me)
Zdál se mi, milá, krásný sen, že jsem byl s tebou zasnouben
…..(I had a beautiful dream, dear, that I was betrothed to you)
Byli jsme spolu v dolině, on mi tam usnul na klíně
…..(We were together in the valley, he fell asleep on my lap)

The lyrics not sung in this version explain the superstition that “those who dream about their wedding will never see it”:
Byli jsme spolu v kostele, klečeli jsme vedle sebe
…..(We were in church together, kneeling next to each other)
Před námi bílý oltář stál, pan farář nám ruce svázal
…..(A white altar stood in front of us, the priest tied our hands)
Komu se o své svatbě zdá, ten se jí nikdy nedočká
…..(Those who dream about their wedding will never see it)
Miláčkovi se zdál ten sen, a teď ho kryje černá zem.
…..(Darling had that dream, and now the black earth covers him)

Lee Roy Matocha was born in Plum, TX, and began playing accordion in his uncle Zbranek’s band in 1947 at the age of 14. He joined the Lee Ilse Orchestra in 1952 as a musician, singer, and later band manager. His vocals were featured on many of the band’s recordings for Bess Records and Hummingbird. When Lee Ilse retired in 1964, Lee Roy formed his own orchestra from the remaining members of the Ilse group, touring and recording extensively. Matocha also tape-recorded radio shows of polka band music which broadcast on several different radio stations of south-central Texas from the 1960s until his death. Lee Roy retired from performing in 1998 and passed away in 2003.
