I LEFT MY HEART IN SAN FRANCISCO was written in 1953 by George Cory and Douglass Cross. The song was originally sung by Tony Bennett and gained immense popularity when he released it in 1962 as a single. It won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year. It has become an iconic anthem for the city and is often played at events and gatherings celebrating San Francisco or used as a symbol of homesickness or longing for a beloved place.
