How did this decorated war veteran end up forgotten and his house ABANDONED

At the age of 24 this decorated war veteran was fighting in World War Two, by 27 he was in the special forces in North Africa, but by the age of 95 he died alone with no one to claim his belongings or his now ABANDONED House, how could this happen and where is his family?
