Meet Violette—a girl who is more likely to be found applying makeup in the backseat of a moving vehicle or on the streets of New York than she is perched at her vanity. A girl who, like you, always has someplace to be and no time to get there. VIOLET GREY follows the Parisian makeup artist around town to chronicle her infamous on-the-go beauty routines. The rules? No crew, no set, no artificial lighting—and no contouring.

While in LA, Violette made a pilgrimage to our flagship boutique on Melrose Place to have a chat in the garden while, naturally, showing us how to add a little something extra to the classic smoky eye. “A matte, dark eyeshadow can look older. I think when your eyeshadow is a little bit more dewy, then it looks a bit more rock and roll. More dramatic.” By opting for shades of bronze and burgundy, and finishing with a glow, the result is decidedly modern and youthful.
