Airoli-Katai Naka Freeway Project Status
The Airoli-Katai Naka Freeway project is currently underway, with significant progress made since its commencement in 2019. Here's an update on the project's status:

-Phase 1 and 2 Progress: The first phase, spanning 3.43 kilometers, is 92% complete, while the second phase, covering 2.57 kilometers, is 67% complete .

Phase 3 Status: The third phase, the longest stretch of 6.3 kilometers, has not yet gained momentum .

Expected Completion: The project is expected to be completed within the next eight to ten months, with an estimated completion deadline of 2024 .

Project Overview: The 12.3-kilometer freeway aims to improve connectivity, reduce travel time by 20-25 minutes, and cut down the distance between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan, and Badlapur by seven kilometers .

Challenges: The project has faced challenges, including the construction of a twin tunnel through the Parsik Hills, which is 1.7 kilometers long .

Cost: The estimated cost of the project is approximately ₹237.77 crores, undertaken by the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) .

Benefits: The freeway will provide direct and quick access to people traveling from Mumbai to Kalyan and Badlapur, reducing travel time by 30 minutes ². It will also benefit commuters traveling to Mumbai from regions like Dombivli, Kalyan, Ambernath, Badlapur, Diva, and Mumbra .

In August 2024, Afcons Infrastructure was declared as the lowest bidder for Airoli – Katai Naka Freeway Phase 3’s construction
Afcons Infrastructure was today declared as the lowest bidder to construct 6.71 km Phase 3 of the 12.7 km Airoli – Katai Naka Freeway project north-east of Mumbai, Maharashtra.

This 6 lane elevated expressway by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will connect national highway NH-48 (old NH-4) with Katai Naka. Along with the under construction Phases 1 & 2, this 30-45m wide road will ultimately provide connectivity to Navi Mumbai’s Airoli Bridge, Shilphata and Parsik Tunnel.

Tata Consulting Engineers (TCE) was appointed by MMRDA as the Peer Review Consultant for its Detailed Project Report (DPR).

MMRDA had invited bids for its construction in June 2024 with a Rs. 1887.19 crore estimate and 4 year deadline including 2 year defects liability period (DLP). Technical bids were opened on July 15 to reveal 4 bidders.
