brigadier general m sakhawat hossain is a Bangladeshi military personality, intellectual, writer and former election commissioner of Bangladesh. he was the commissioner of the election commission of Bangladesh from 2007 to 2012. he is a retired brigadier general of the Bangladesh army. he writes columns in various domestic and foreign newspapers. he has written more than 20 books.
early life
sakhawat hossain was born on february 1, 1948 in Barisal district of Bangladesh. he started his primary education at Tejgaon government primary school. he completed his ssc from karachi in 1963 and hsc from islamia science college in karachi in 1965. he joined the army while studying in the department of international relations at the university of karachi, received the kashiman in 1966 and remained in sialkot until 1971.

career
sakhawat hossain joined the Pakistan army in 1966. when Bangladesh became independent in 1971, he returned to Bangladesh in 1973 and joined the Camilla cantonment as a major in the Bangladesh army.

he served as a member of the board of directors of sonalee bank, the largest commercial bank in Bangladesh, for two years.

after retirement
after retiring from service and the election commission, he has been doing research work on national security and defense. he is a columnist and security analyst for national and international newspapers.
