Heaven or Hell: Downwind sail comparison of a spinnaker, gennaker with a sock and IFS Gennaker.

Описание к видео Heaven or Hell: Downwind sail comparison of a spinnaker, gennaker with a sock and IFS Gennaker.

Choosing the right downwind sail can make a big difference ...

The spinnaker sail was designed in the 1920s specifically for sailing off the wind from a reaching course to a downwind, i.e. with the wind 90–180° off the bow.

Then came the gennaker in around 1990. Used for downwind sailing, it is a cross between a genoa and a spinnaker. It was a huge evolution from the spinnaker, it required no pole and could be handled by a smaller crew. The sock used to hoist and lower the spinnaker made it simpler to sail and safer to store.

Today the IFS Gennaker with its integrated furling structure has all the advantages of a spinnaker with none of the disadvantages:

· It can be hoisted and dropped easily whenever necessary, even in port for ultimate ease.
· It is extremely lightweight, making handling and storage super easy.
· It is easy to jibe with because it can be furled quickly and comfortably.

Let's dive into the video and see how áll these different sails are handled.
