Typhoon Yagi Death Toll Climbs; Floods Continue To Threaten North Vietnam

This 30-year old bridge on the Red river in Vietnam's northern province of Phu Tho collapsed . At least 8 people were missing soon after the collapse that was caught on camera .Traffic on other bridges in vulnerable areas has been limited or stopped .Asia's most powerful storm this year - Typhoon Yagi has extracted a heavy toll on Vietnam .The typhoon made landfall on September 7 on Vietnam's northeastern coast .It triggered landslides and floods that have already claimed at least 65 lives .39 people are missing in the north of the country .The storm has impacted electricity connections to households and industries. Industrial hubs in Bac Giang and Thai Nguyen have also faced severe flooding .The storm has flooded highways and high wind speeds have endangered people's lives .Water level in several rivers has risen to danger levels and evacuations have been ordered .Flooded waters have reached villages on the outskirts of Hanoi too .Close to 4,600 soldiers have been deployed for rescue and relief work .Typhoon Yagi wreaked havoc in China's Hainan and the Philippines before hitting Vietnam .For those like Gguyen Thi Thom who had invested everything in her restaurant .the road to recovery is a long and hard one.
