Jack S. Burks, MD, is an international leader in multiple sclerosis, neurology, and chronic disease management. For more than 30 years, he has been involved in comprehensive care, research, and education in multiple sclerosis. Dr. Burks is Chief Medical Officer of the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and President of Burks & Associates Health Care & Education Consultants, Reno, Nevada. He is a member of the National Medical Advisory Board of the National MS Society (NMSS).
Following a postdoctoral fellowship in virology and immunology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Burks was a founder and president of one of the nation's first comprehensive MS centers, the Rocky Mountain MS Center at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Subsequently he was a founder of the Colorado Neurological Institute in Englewood, Colorado, which has grown to include over 100 neuroscientists, 3 hospitals, and 23 tertiary neuroscience programs. He was a founder and Medical Director of the Renown Institute for Neurosciences, Reno, Nevada, and Clinical Professor of Medicine, Division of Neurology, at the University of Nevada School of Medicine..
Dr. Burks has been a member of the board of directors of the American Academy of Neurology, leading its chronic disease management initiative. He is Past President of the American Society for Neurological Rehabilitation and Board Member and Officer of the Consortium of MS Centers. Dr. Burks is a member of the American Neurological Association, the American Medical Association, and the American College of Physician Executives. He has written and edited textbooks on multiple sclerosis management and research, including Multiple Sclerosis: Diagnosis, Medical Management and Rehabilitation, and published numerous scientific articles and reviews. He is a medical and scientific consultant to many healthcare companies and has lectured to healthcare professionals, patients, and the public in over 40 countries on six continents
