Family sues school for suspending student using term 'illegal alien' | On Balance

A school suspended a 16-year-old student for three days after he posed a question in class regarding the term "illegal aliens." The school stated that his question was equivalent to a racial slur. As a result, the Liberty Justice Center filed a lawsuit against the Davidson County School Board for violating Christian McGhee's rights to free speech, education and due process. His mother, Leah McGhee, tells NewsNation that the racism label was unfairly applied to her son, who will soon be applying to colleges.
