Ballerina Takes the Stand and Explains How She Shot Her Husband — Full Testimony

Ashley Benefield took the stand on Friday and testified about why she shot her husband, Doug Benefield, and how she acted in self-defense. Benefield broke down numerous times when she talked about the final moments of her husband’s life and their relationship up to the deadly shooting.

In September 2020, Ashley Benefield ran to a neighbor's house in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, and stated she had just shot her husband. Douglas Benefield had several gunshot wounds to his leg, arm, and chest area. Ashley Benefield claims she shot him in self-defense after months of alleged abuse. She was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Ashley Benefield made bail and has been living with family and her daughter since the crime.
