Beneath the Mushrooms- Rembrandt Watercolor Palette Fieldtest & Illustration

Описание к видео Beneath the Mushrooms- Rembrandt Watercolor Palette Fieldtest & Illustration

How the heck did I miss releasing this Fieldtest?! I don't know, but plenty of time has passed, and hey, better late than never. Some information is evergreen, and today we're going to finally find out how Rembrandt Watercolors handle.

I've included the timer to give you guys an idea of how long a piece like this takes- I'd like to continue this feature in the future.

Fieldtest Notes:

These are more opaque than many watercolors I’ve tested, but that seems to be a common theme with manyprofessional watercoplor brands (Lukas, Schmincke) so it really boils down to what you like with watercolors

Since some of these colors are very opaque (the yellow, orange, and red are particularly opaque), I’m going to adjust how i handle color a bit to accommodate these paints.

These are a bit slow to reactivate- you need to give them a chance to soak in the water, and tend to dry out fast.

I feel like some of the color choices in this set are a little weird (orange? Bright green? Cerulean rather than a cool green?) and it makes mixing certain colors difficult. The viridian green is really weak and kinda muddy- I basically couldn’t get enough color out of it to use it.

Colors layer surprisingly well, and some colors have really lovely granulation on this Stonehenge Aqua paper.

The opacity can be useful though- you can build up layers of color and build up glazes that have some impact.

These paints tend to glop up on the brush, and you may find yourself going through them quicker.

I feel like I like these better than the Lukas 1862, but I’d love to do a head to head comparison of the two. I still need to do the 1862 fieldtest, but I misplaced that set while moving.

I feel like these watercolors aren’t as finely milled as some I’ve reviewed- perhaps this adds to the opacity? These might be a lot of fun on a paper that encourages granulation like the Paul Rubens w/c paper

Total Time: 153.58

The Verdict:

If you enjoy watercolors that often (but not always) deliver a bold pop of color, Rembrandt might be the brand for you. Colors are generally more opaque, so this may mean less layering. The color selection in this particular palette is a bit odd to me (especially compared to othe 12 color palettes I’ve reviewed), but seems like it might work well for landscape painters. The Viridian green is weak and in my opinion, unusable in the palette I purchased- if you have a different experience with Rembrandt’s Viridian, please let me know!

Really though, these are probably not for me. I prefer translucent color and quick activation. While I love granulation, I like a variety- some colors more finely milled, not every color opaque.

Music:
Unfortunately, I've lost my music notes for this video. Given the time I edited it, it's all Kevin MacLeod and the Youtube Music Archive.
