গরম ভাতে দুইটা"- is one of the favourite Bengali phrases used by fish lovers.

Chital Macher Muitha is an extremely old Bengali recipe of fish and it requires very less amount of time and effort to prepare it. This is something that almost all of us have eaten from our mothers/grandmothers. Chital Macher Muitha, the name itself gives some idea about the recipe. The word Muitha is derived from the Bengali word Mutho (মুঠো aka fist). Simply put, Muitha is a Fritter which is prepared by the help of a mutho.

Now coming to Chitol Macher Muitha, this particular variety of fish is used in making muitha because of the texture of the fish. In this preparation, boneless chital mach, shaped with hands and fingers and then lightly boiled and fried before being cooked in a spicy onion-tomato gravy.

Ingredients-
For muitha-

Chital fish(850 gm)
Ginger-Garlic paste (2tsp)
Coriander powder (1tsp)
Cumin powder (1tsp)
Red chili powder (1tsp)
Salt(as per taste)

For gravy-

Mustard oil
Cumin seeds (1tsp)
Dried red chilli
Potato (4 medium size - cut into small pieces)
Ginger-Garlic paste (1½ tbsp)
Onion paste (2 tbsp)
Tomato paste (4 tbsp)
Salt(as per taste)
Coriander powder (2 tsp)
Cumin powder (2 tsp)
Red chili powder (1tsp)
Kashmiri red chilli powder (1tsp)
Turmeric powder (1tsp)
Garam masala powder (1tsp)
Water (as needed)
