The I-Cord Tab Cast On

Описание к видео The I-Cord Tab Cast On

• A tutorial for casting on using the I-Cord Tab Cast On.

This is a beautiful way to begin a shawl that will have I-cord edges because it flows seamlessly into the edges of the shawl.

You will need a circular needle and a spare needle, such as a double-pointed needle, cable needle or another circular needle.

Here are the steps:

• Cast on 3 stitches using a provisional cast on, such as the Turkish Cast On shown here.

• Work 7 rows of I-cord. (Work 2 more rows than the number of stitches you plan to pick up. I will be picking up 5 stitches here.)
Note: In this tutorial, I work a yarn over after the first stitch of each of I-cord row, then drop the yarn over when slipping the stitch back to the left needle; this produces stitches that will be similar in size to the edge stitches of the shawl.
• After the 7th I-cord row, do not slip the stitches back to the left needle. Instead, pick up and knit 5 stitches along the column of stitches to which the working yarn is attached.
• Slip the 3 stitches of the provisional cast on onto a spare needle purlwise, then rotate the needle clockwise 180 degrees (to reverse the order of these 3 stitches) and slip 3 purlwise with yarn in front.

The cast on is complete, and the next row will be a wrong-side row.

Happy knitting!
