Slovenia - Meditative and Harmonising Sounds of the World - VEDUN

The video offers a performance rooted in Slovene melodics and the Slovene folk song tradition. The ancient Slovene musical melos stems from both the ancient Slavic heritage and Celtic lore from the Slovene ethnic territory. In their performance, Vedun musicians draw from the folk tradition and melos of the regions of Resia, Prekmurje, Primorsko, Gorenjsko, and central Slovenia. One instrument accompanying their performance is the drone zither drsovce, which has been known in Slovenia at least since mediaeval times. Jaw harps called drumlice are the legacy of prehistoric shamans, while plonarca, an early version of the accordion, along with other instruments and sound makers, expresses ancient meditative sound lines, which soothe us, harmonise us, and speak to our soul. Priest-musicians known as Veduns, role models for the Vedun Ensemble and at the same time a precious Slavic jewel, were revered masters of sound in Slovenia right up to the 20th century. They knew very well what could be done with sound, what they could harmonise or attune and what they could dissolve. Veduns have always been people who know, see, and hear the music of the current moment, echoing eternity and timelessness, filling us with grace and Universal life energy, with its power.

New relaxing and harmonising music, perfect for meditation, was released on this Vedun Ensemble Youtube channel. It was recorded in the Cekin Mansion in Ljubljana, in January 2020, at precisely the time when coronavirus had started spreading across the globe. Channelled (spontaneously played and sung) sound images from this new series of audio-video recordings were put online. In all these sound images, unusual and rare old instruments enhance the ancient euphonies of various cultures and melos: Slovenia, Africa, India, Persia, ancient Slavs, Siberians, Hawaiians, Native Americans, etc. Moreover, we will soon be adding soothing new-age music accompanied by crystal musical instruments. All videos (including those already available online) come with a powerful sound-energy charge, which will fill, harmonise, and inspire you while you listen.
