Hi, apparently this was common knowledge in the french walkthroughs, but after testing it on NTSC-U I couldn't get it to work. Then tried on PAL french and it worked. Just go to Fyer once and fail to repair the canon, then talk to Fyer again to repair the canon for free (he will take your rupees if you have any).

This also works on PAL Wii and NTSC-U Wii 1.2, but not on the HD version (thank you the TP speedrunning community for checking!)
