BALLOS – Μπάλλος-Τσαμπούνα (Ballos-Tsabouna / Dance-Bagpipes)

Ο Μπάλλος είναι δίσημος αντικριστός χορός, χορεύεται στις Κυκλάδες και στα περισσότερα νησιά του Αιγαίου καθώς και στη Μικρά Ασία. Παίζεται συνήθως μετά από συρτά, σε πιο γρήγορο τέμπο όμως. Χορεύεται από ζευγάρι άνδρα-γυναίκας, και ο χορευτής φλερτάρει κυνηγώντας την κοπέλα, η οποί προσποιείται πως τον αποφεύγει, με κυκλικές κινήσεις, έχοντας τα χέρια συνήθως στη μέση και πατώντας στις μύτες των ποδιών της (μπαλέτο), τα δε βήματα της είναι μικρά και ελαφριά. Ο χορευτής έχει τα χέρια σε διάταση και με "επιθετικές" χορευτικές φιγούρες, προσπαθεί να "εγκλωβίσει" τη ντάμα του.
Στο δεύτερο μέρος του κομματιού, το βιολί μιμείται τον ήχο της τσαμπούνας. Το τέμπο είναι πιο γρήγορο και η θεματολογία είναι βουκολική.

Ballos is danced in the Cyclades and most of the Aegean islands, as well as Asia Minor. It is usually played following Syrtos dances (in Syrtos, the dancers form a circle and the tempo is slow); the tempo accelerates. Ballos is danced by man-woman couples and the cavalier flirts with the lady, “chasing” her, while she pretends to be avoiding him, dancing in circles, on her toes and with little and light steps (as in ballet), with her armes placed on her waist. The cavalier has his arms wide open and tries to “trap” the lady, using aggressive dance moves.
In the second part of the musical piece, the violin mimics the sound of Tsabouna (Greek bagpipes). The tempo is faster and the themes are pastoral.
