Gat Bhav presented by Anjali Nath at the first New York Kathak Festival on April 20, 2019 at the Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York City.

This Gat Bhav (Story) is based on the mythical Phoenix found in legends—a being capable of regenerating itself and rising from the ashes as we as humans too have the opportunity to do throughout our lives if we allow ourselves.

Accompanied by Kaavya Valiveti (harmonium), Abhik Mukherjee (sitar), Shivalik Ghoshal (tabla), Pranali Dhole (parhant), and Beth Bahia Cohen.

Anjali is a dynamic Kathak artist who is a native of New York and began to nurture her love for dance at the age of 4, through her beloved ballet classes which she maintained into her college years. She began her entry into the rich world of Kathak in 1997 at Tufts University, training with Gretchen Hayden and moved to the SF Bay Area in 2003 to deepen her study directly under renowned Kathak guru, the late Pandit Chitresh Das. Anjali is dedicated to upholding and elevating the Kathak tradition and nurturing the next generations of Kathak artists.

All material is created based on the teachings and style of the late, honorable Pandit Chitresh Das, whose vibrant energy and artistic integrity continue to permeate and influence the field of Kathak and generations to come.

Abhik Mukherjee is a Kolkata-born sitar player of the Etawah-Imdadkhani gharana. He was initiated to sitar at the age of six by his father, Sri Tarit Mukherjee, and Sri Bimal Chatterjee, while simultaneously receiving vocal instruction from Sri Kaylan Bose. He has since taken talim from Pandit Arvind Parikh and Pandit Kashinath Mukherjee, themselves disciples of the legendary Ustad Vilayat Khan. He is a gold medalist in musicology from Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata, and has also received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, India.

Shivalik Ghoshal comes from a musical family. From the age of seven, Shivalik has been a student of Sree Kinner K. Seen of Punjab gharana since 1989. Presently, he is a student of the tabla maestro Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri of the Lucknow gharana since 1997.

Kaavya Valiveti received her initial music training in Carnatic music from her mother Smt. Natana Valiveti as well as from Kum. Savita Narasimhan of Chennai, and has been learning Hindustani classical music on harmonium from Dr. Ravindra Katoti of Bengaluru since 2012. Now a Boston resident, she is currently pursuing a PhD in mathematics at MIT.
