India farmer protests: Hundreds of trucks block highway to New Delhi

On Wednesday, hundreds of farmers in India parked their trucks on a highway towards New Delhi to demand that the government pay more for their crops, as promised in 2021.

Police have prohibited large gatherings in New Delhi and blocked major routes leading to the capital.

“Either the government should accept our demands or democratically give us the right to go to Delhi,” General Secretary of Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee (Punjab Farmers Union) Sarvan Singh Pandher said.

Meanwhile, Indian Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda said, “The efforts will continue to speak to the farmers' unions in a constructive and positive manner…we are ready to hold dialogues with them."
