Today, we’ll be observing both the towering giants and the smallest herbivorous dinosaurs in their natural-looking habitats. Dino Fact Of The Day: Archaeornithomimus

Time period:
Archaeornithomimus lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 96–90 million years ago.

Maximum weight:
Estimates suggest it could reach around 150–200 kg (330–440 lbs), though most individuals were likely on the lighter side due to their slender, bird-like build.

Where it lived:
Fossils have been discovered in Asia, particularly in what is now Inner Mongolia, China, within the Iren Dabasu Formation.
Its environment likely consisted of river plains, semi-arid landscapes, and open habitats.

Diet: Carnivore or herbivore:
Archaeornithomimus is generally considered an omnivore.
Like other ornithomimosaurs, it likely fed on a mixed diet that may have included plants, seeds, small animals, and possibly insects, based on its beak-like mouth and body structure.

Estimated running speed:
Due to its long legs, lightweight skeleton, and cursorial (running-adapted) anatomy, Archaeornithomimus was likely a fast runner.
Scientific biomechanical comparisons with similar ornithomimosaurs suggest a potential top speed of around 50–60 km/h (31–37 mph), making it one of the faster non-avian dinosaurs.
