Open Space: Yung Bans | Mass Appeal

"I ain't never had a job," says Atlanta rapper Yung Bans. "Never applied for a job. Every decision I make I gotta treat it like life or death. Cause signing a deal ain't just be like some bullshit. If I can't make music no more, I can't eat."

Born in St. Louis, Bans moved to Atlanta in seventh grade and began focusing seriously on music two or three years ago (yep, bans really is YUNG). "I used to pray for 100 views on my song," says the 18-year-old recording artist. Now he's collaborating with the SoundCloud elite, racking up 10s of millions of plays.

"The SoundCloud rap thing-all that-that's just how we came up," Bans reflects. "But now I feel like I done surpassed that, just SoundCloud. We on Spotify, iTunes. Back in the day we didn't know how to put it on iTunes. Now I got real labels reaching out. So-SoundCloud, no SoundCloud… it's all good."
