1. Sit down interview with Tom Hanks. Including soundbites:

"I mean he's a kid so he loves making this movie because he doesn't have to go to school you see! But he also just loved the pretending that went along with it and very very quickly I think he put together that it was just as important not to say anything as it was to say anything. The scenes were not about how many lines do I have and what do I actually get to say here, but what are the reasons behind my silences and he's a very smart kid in that way. We still write letters back and forth to each other and I sign it 'Your fake dad Tom' and he writes back and says 'Your fake son Tyler'."

"This man is brutal. They say oh he's a nice guy because he does things for all the right reasons. I don't see how you can shoot a man in the head for all the right reasons! He has been able to make his peace with doing terrible. terrible, terrible things and I think that is actually a very horrifying realisation. That even he knows that he's come to this place where he will mercilessly gun somebody down and he will not lose a moment's sleep over it in the course of an evening."

"It's a very simple story basically, but very complex themes and very complex relationships within the story. Two father/son stories, two fathers protecting their least favoured sons, both set on a course of mutual destruction in which one them has to die. It's almost like a Greek tragedy, you do think wow, if Sophocles had had that idea he might have used it you know? Being forced to kill your own father to save your child is an incredible moral dilemma and that is what is at the heart of the film."

"It took a fair amount of wooing. I'd read an article in the LA Times about six months before when he said I'm going to do one more part and it had better be good. I thought wow, who's the film maker who's going to get him out of retirement? This is before I read the script. When I'd read the script I thought the person who is perfect for this role is Paul Newman but he probably won't do it. So I really fully expected him to say, 'do you know what? I don't want to do it'. He's also not commonly attached to violent movies, he doesn't like great deal of violence, he finds it difficult coming to terms with it in the movies and he's said that many times. He rang back and said I'm very interested."
