It has been over a week since Hurricane Sandy struck our shores, impacting thousands of families, friends, and neighbors. Much has been done already to aid those who have lost their communities, homes, and livelihoods; however we are still far from normalcy. Volunteers are working tirelessly to restore what has been destroyed, clothing drives are providing many with warmth, and food distribution stations are nourishing thousands each day.

Every donation and hour of your time helps. At Red Rabbit we have been donating thousands of bagged lunches for our neighbors affected in Brooklyn and Staten Island. If you are looking to help, we have listed several ways to give back and aid recovery efforts in Sandy's wake.

Information and news is being posted constantly. Check under the hash tag #SandyVolunteers -- this is being used and updated daily with new projects and ways to help volunteer.

Donate
Many local charities and organizations are collecting monetary donations to help supplement their relief efforts -- here are a few...
New York City Meals on Wheels is collecting funds to help provide hot meals to those in need on their website -- click here.
The Salvation Army is also collecting funds to help families and neighborhoods in need -- click here.
Breezy Point, one of the hardest hit neighborhoods has set up a relief donation fund -- click here.
The Humane Society is accepting donations for pets and pet owners -- click here

New Jersey Food Bank
The New Jersey Food Bank is collecting both money donations and grocery items to distribute in Sandy's aftermath. You can make a $10 donation simply by texting FEEDNJ from your phone to 80888. If you would rather supply groceries, the Food Bank has posted a specific list of items they are requesting on their Hurricane Sandy relief page, here.

Jersey Cares and NYC Service
NYC Service and Jersey Cares have several grass root efforts where you can support, aid, and volunteer in communities that were greatly affected by Hurricane Sandy. They both provide lists of volunteer locations and ways in which to donate money, time, and goods on their websites -NYC Service and JerseyCares. NYC Service is also constantly updating their Facebook page at facebook.com/nycservice.

Aid of any kind is greatly needed and appreciated in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy's destruction. It may be a long road to recovery, but with support and the service of our time and resources we can help to make it an easier one for our neighbors.

Red Rabbit will be handing out fresh meals this Saturday November, 10th at 57-10 Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway, Queens - please pass the word along. In the coming weeks we will be in various locations, helping with clean up and providing meals to those in need.
