সারাদেশে ১০ হাজার মিডওয়াইফারি নার্স নিয়োগের প্রক্রিয়া চলছে বলে জানিয়েছেন নার্সিং ও মিডওয়াইফারি অধিদপ্তরের মহাপরিচালক আনোয়ার হোছাইন আকন্দ। বর্তমানে ২ হাজার ৬০০ মিডওয়াইফ কর্মরত আছেন, বাকিদের নিয়োগ কার্যক্রম চলছে।৮ অক্টোবর রাজধানীর মহাখালীতে নিজ কার্যালয়ে গলমাধ্যমের সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎকারে তিনি বলেন, “২০১৮ সাল থেকে ৩ হাজার ২০০টি মিডওয়াইফারি পদ সৃষ্টি করা হয়েছে। নতুন করে আরও ৪ হাজার ৪৪৫টি পদের প্রস্তাব পাঠানো হয়েছে এবং অতিরিক্ত ৪ হাজার পদ সৃষ্টির কাজ চলছে। দুই বছরের মধ্যে সারাদেশে প্রায় ১০ হাজার মিডওয়াইফ নিয়োগ সম্পন্ন হবে।”মহাপরিচালক জানান, মিডওয়াইফদের আন্তরিকতা ও দক্ষতার ফলে দেশে নরমাল ডেলিভারির হার বেড়েছে এবং অপ্রয়োজনীয় সিজারিয়ান সেকশন কমছে। এতে প্রসূতি মায়েদের স্বাস্থ্যঝুঁকি ও চিকিৎসা খরচ দুটোই হ্রাস পাচ্ছে। “মিডওয়াইফদের কারণে মাতৃ ও শিশুমৃত্যু কমছে, পুষ্টিহীনতা হ্রাস পাচ্ছে এবং ইনস্টিটিউশনাল ডেলিভারির হারও বেড়েছে,” তিনি বলেন।

Proposals for 4,445 new posts have been sent and work is underway to create an additional 4,000 posts. About 10,000 midwives will be recruited across the country within two years." The Director General said that due to the sincerity and skill of midwives, the rate of normal delivery has increased in the country and unnecessary cesarean sections are decreasing. This is reducing both the health risks and medical costs of pregnant mothers. "Due to midwives, maternal and child mortality is decreasing, malnutrition is decreasing, and the rate of institutional delivery has also increased," he said.
