As the world celebrates Pride Month, we turn our attention to a place where being LGBTQ is not just stigmatized, it’s criminalized. In the Islamic Republic of Iran, queer identity is punishable by imprisonment, torture, and even execution. And yet, amidst that repression, courageous Iranian activists continue to speak out, not only against the regime, but proudly and openly as members of the LGBTQ community.

In this online event, we will hear from activists who are outspoken in their opposition to the Islamic Regime of Iran and all of its proxies. At the same time, they are equally vocal about their identities and rights within the LGBTQ community.

They will explore the complex and often painful dichotomy of being part of a global LGBTQ community that, in many cases — regardless of geography — appears to align with the very forces they oppose: the IRGC and its proxies, including Hamas.

This conversation will shed light on the challenges of holding both identities, and the sense of alienation that can arise when one's own community supports, defends, or remains silent about those who actively persecute LGBTQ individuals in Iran and across the region.
