Surah Abasa (Arabic: عبس) is the 80th chapter (surah) of the Qur'an. It has 42 verses and was revealed in Makkah. The title "Abasa" means "He frowned", taken from the first verse of the surah.

Surah Abasa addresses an important moral and spiritual lesson about humility, priorities in preaching, and the value of all human beings regardless of their status.
1. Incident with the Blind Man (Verses 1–10):
The surah begins by describing an incident where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ frowned and turned away when a blind man named Abdullah ibn Umm Maktum came to him seeking guidance. At that moment, the Prophet was engaged in conversation with some elite Qurayshi leaders in hopes of guiding them to Islam.
The Qur'an rebukes this behavior—not out of harshness, but to emphasize that sincere seekers of truth deserve more attention than the arrogant and indifferent rich.
"He frowned and turned away, because there came to him the blind man..." (Verses 1–2)
2. The Value of Revelation (Verses 11–16):
These verses highlight that the Qur'an is a reminder for all, and those who wish to benefit from it should be given importance. The Prophet is reminded not to let the status or social position of people influence his engagement with them.
“Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an, in a Register exalted…” (Verses 13–16)
3. Reflection on Human Creation (Verses 17–32):
The surah then shifts to reflect on human ingratitude and the signs of Allah’s creation. It discusses how man is created from a humble drop, yet he is ungrateful. The verses describe how Allah provides food, fruits, and sustenance—signs of His mercy and power.
“Let man look at his food—how We poured down water in abundance…” (Verses 24–25)
4. The Day of Judgment (Verses 33–42):
The final section is a vivid description of the Day of Judgment, when a person will flee from even his closest relatives, and every soul will be concerned only with itself. Faces will be divided into bright and joyful or dusty and gloomy, depending on their deeds.
“On that Day some faces will be radiant, laughing, rejoicing…” (Verses 38–39)
