Indonesia: Best Swell Of The Year So Far, with HTs, G-Land, Sumatra, Kandui, Bali, and more

Indonesia, Chain of Fire: Great Indo surf seasons aren’t measured so much by raw size as by the sheer number of waves ridden. Yet truth is, the place is still beyond us. When a good swell hits the chain, an uncountable number of reefs light up, and not even the thousands of us who make it into position for the swell can hope to ride them all. The double-header storm that pushed north-east through the southern Indian Ocean toward Indo in the last days of May was a classic example. It formed on the heels of an earlier storm system which helped magnify its energies, and it sprayed swell from the top of the chain to its eastern fringes, most of it arriving under near perfect local conditions. Three days of glory followed. Here’s our little glimpse of those days.
