Martha Reeves has a rich history. She's Motown's ultimate soul diva and lead singer of the group Martha and The Vandellas.
During troubled times of the 60's, Martha and the Vandellas' music was able to reach across racial lines.
Known for hits like Nowhere To Run and Jimmy Mack, Martha's road to stardom began in 1961 when she arrived at the Motown Hitsville USA studios with big dreams.
Instead of being offered a recording contract, she became the first Artist & Repertoire Secretary for the Detriot company. Soon after, Martha and her group members ,Rosalind Ashford and Annette Beard sang on Marvin Gaye's first smash single "Stubborn Kind Of Fellow" and other hits then worked as his back up singers on the road.
Things began happening fast for tnem.  In 1963, with 3 hits in a row:" Come & Get These Memories", "Heat Wave" and "Quicksand", some say they defined the Motown Sound
and became the first Motown group ever to receive a Grammy Award nomination.
The group made an even bigger impact when Martha called out around the world on the global hit song Dancing in the Streets,"
Their signature single, released shortly after the signing of the Civil Rights Act, unintentionally became an anthem of the Civil Rights Movement.
Martha's love for the Motorcity inspired her to serve as an elected council woman in Detroit from 2005 to 2009.
Charting over 26 hits in her career and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995,  Martha has written a book  about her life and today continues to perform with her two sisters Lois and Delphine who became Vandellas in 1968 and 1980 respectively.
