1.2mm diameter needle, I used a Singer sewing machine needle I had at home. The head is large so easier to clamp.

toothpick, as a wedge to keep needle in place.

The 600gr and no tear comes from Dudek and also Nova and likely others have the same or similar test procedures.

Checking the cloth strength
Checking the cloth strength is carried out with the so called betsometer on one spot
on the top sail and on one spot on the bottom sail. Both spots should be chosen in
the middle of the wing (front section). If the cloth tears at a load of 600g, the strength
is not sufficient and the glider looses its airworthiness. If the cloth does not tear at
600g the glider passes and the test shall be aborted. The result has to be entered in
the check protocol.
