After 4 years of construction work, the long-awaited Atiak sugar factory has finally started production of sugar in Amuru district.

According to its proprietor, Amina Moghe Hersi the factory is expected to have a daily crushing capacity of 1,650 metric tonnes of sugarcane with an expected future increase to about 3,500 metric tonnes.

However, as full production begins, Amina notes that the factory is grappling with an inadequate supply of sugarcane.
