The big tusker, Intwandamela, wakes up and walks off into the bush after we replace his tracking collar

This adult bull was first sighted in March 2004 and collared in November 2004. His name means ‘he who greets you with fire in his eyes’ and it was given to him after Dr Michelle Henley first encountered him on foot with Eckson, an experienced tracker.

Intwandamela moves throughout the APNR and central Kruger region, expanding his range when the wet season arrives. He is a large but short and stocky bull with a characteristic V-shaped notch in his left year. His right ear has subtle waves and both his tusks are long and elegant.

Over the last 15 years, Intwandamela has become one of the most placid bulls we monitor. We are extremely excited to continue monitoring his movements as he is one of our long term study animals.
