This 1855-S Double Eagle has been graded MS61 by PCGS.   The 1855-S is one of the better-struck Type One double eagles from this mint, plus she has her original Patina with a deeper greenish gold color finish.  The 1855-S is still a fairly scarce date that can be obtained without too much difficulty in VF or EF condition,  even some 20 years after the SS Central America treasure hoard came to market.   This magnificent looking coin is from the Fairmont Collection which re-emerged again from foreign countries as late as the 2010's.  This gorgeous Liberty Head Double Eagle is one of those lost hidden gems.  Make it a part of your fine collection today!
