The Mäusebunker opened in 1981 as the Central Animal Laboratory for the Free University of Berlin, which is a nice way of saying they raised lab animals here -- and then experimented on them. It's now owned by the Charite hospital and was the home of experimental medicine until the building's unique construction led to impractical maintenance costs. They built a new place in Berlin-Buch and were going to tear this down until fans of brutalist architecture intervened. What do you think of the place?
