This video emphasizes the thought process to go through when using inverse operations.
1) Find the equal sign and draw a line (not only does it rhyme, but it helps us remember to keep the left "bucket" separate from the right "bucket" of the balance)

2) Point to the variable/"unknown"
3) Ask "What's happening to the variable?"
4) Ask "How do I UNDO that?" (with an inverse operation)
5) Do that on BOTH sides of the equation
6) Ask "What do I have now, on each side?" and simplify
7) Ask "Is the variable isolated", as in, all by itself on one side of the equation, with no coefficients or numbers being added or subtracted?
8) If it's isolated, box your solution. Check it by plugging it in for the variable in the original equation. Your solution should make the original equation true. If it doesn't, try again.
9) If the variable is not yes isolated, then keep going with steps 2-6 until it is.
