What is RPE and RIR(and how to use them in training!)

Описание к видео What is RPE and RIR(and how to use them in training!)

In this video Matt unpacks what RPE(Rate of Perceived Exertion) and RIR(Reps in Reserve) are and how you can utilize them in your program.

RPE can be gauged on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being a maximal effort set with nothing left in the tank.
RIR is used determining how many reps away from failure you are.

Figuring out your RPE can be difficult, so there are some tools in the video that can help you figure out what RPE you are actually training to.

The RPE and RIR system is a skill that takes time to develop. You won't be very great at determining how far away from failure you are when you first start out, but if you use the strategies explained in the video you can become more accurate in determining your actual RPE.

Using the RPE system is super useful in managing fatigue. RPE/RIR is also useful when trying to implement progressive overload.
