So about 5 years ago I was working in a great ministry organization but I wasn’t enjoying what I was doing in my day-to-day job

At the same time I was in a great church but struggling to connect on Sunday mornings with the style of worship

Once I started talking out loud about both of these problems it was like needing to go to the bathroom on a long car trip as a kid
and after quietly holding it for a long time--Once you say it out loud, you really gotta go!

So a few months after saying it out loud, we left our great church and eventually landed at another church in the area which seemed to be a better fit

But I was still wrestling with my day-job!

And then one Sunday morning I opened the bulletin they were asking the church to pray for their daughter church at the sudden and unexpected loss of their pastor

And as soon as I saw it, I knew that was my job—God had positioned me THERE so that I might end up HERE.
Almost exactly one year later I started working at Chatham Community Church

And all of that so I could be here with YOU today on this week’s Sunday’s best 3 minutes!

Welcome to Sunday’s Best 3 minutes [famously small bladder as a kid] where we’re not doing career counseling but we are taking one big idea from Sunday’s message and bringing it to you in a portable package

We’re in week 4 of a series called “For Such a Time as This” in the Old Testament book of Esther

Esther and the Jewish people are scattered in exile throughout the Persian Empire; Esther won a beauty contest, and suddenly finds herself catapulted from the margins to the queen of Persia

Haman, the chief villain in the story, convinces King Xerxes to issue a decree to wipe out all the Jewish people in the entire empire

And so in Esther 4, Esther’s cousin Mordecai asks her to go to the king and plead on behalf of her people to save them from destruction

And he closes with these powerful words, “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Such a time as this moments are when our POSITIONING meets God’s PURPOSES.

Esther is queen not just for her own comfort and the great retirement package but to save her people

In our lives, God is at work positioning us for our own ‘such a time as this’ moments
I believe it’s true even if you don’t believe in God, but you can totally blow me off on that point if you want!

In my story God was at work to position me for a very unexpected such a time as this moment, even though the process felt was mostly like fumbling around in the dark

So two questions for you this week:
Where has God positioned you? Can you inventory every environment God has you from your home life to work life to volunteer organizations and neighborhoods
Are you open and even eager to being in those places for God’s purposes? Purposes much greater than simply your own comfort or convenience

This week, I want to invite you to take stock of all the places God has you
and invite God to show you if there are any larger purposes he’d want you to participate in

Because just maybe in some unexpected and surprising way, God’s at work positioning you for one of YOUR such-a-time-as-this moments.

I suggest you go to the bathroom first!
