BEWARE: I killed over 200,000 and, there was no way to stop it. Store-bought manure might contain pesticides, herbicides or, by-products that will kill your worms!

I killed an entire bed of worms almost overnight. I purchased "finished" compost from a local farm supply. I've decided that it was dewormer but, it could have been any number of things. I chose dewormer because seeds would sprout in it so, it wasn't an herbicide. I've decided to raise my worms without a manure source until I have my own. It was a hard lesson to learn.

The dead, red wiggler, bed is coming back strong! After killing all of the worms with tainted manure I've nursed the bed and, their numbers are on the rise. I still feel guilty about the dewormer or, whatever was in the manure that took out all of the worms. But, these new guys have great bedding because of that mistake.

The wild worm box has been a pleasant surprise. The population is on a steady rise and, the worms are . . . very . . . nig and healthy. If they continue to consume at this rate I am going to give composting with wild-caught worms two thumbs up!

Here is a link for wide-mouthed jars. I use Mason but, OMG, when they get so expensive? These jars are half the price of Mason. But, if it's your first time buying jars, check your local Dollar of $.99 store for a better price. Big box stores like Home Depot also sell canning supplies and, sometimes have a better price.
