Scythe and Reaper - Vol. III, Episode 18

Описание к видео Scythe and Reaper - Vol. III, Episode 18

This episode we are joined by Debra Reid, Curator of Agriculture and the Environment at The Henry Ford, and hosted by the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. Deb educates us about the history of the scythe and reaper in the 19th century. The scythe tools and reaper machines would be known and understood by the Civil War soldier and civilian. She discusses what was changing at this time in farming to give us a broader understanding. The scythe in particular is a tool that has a long history and was still in prevalent use during the Civil War years and we will really focus in on that aspect.
We originally planned this as one long episode and then realized in filming it was best to make it two. The next episode we will show you how to use and care for a scythe!

We are excited to bring this history to you while being hosted at a museum which has its own Emmy Award winning television series,
The Henry Ford’s Innovation Nation on CBS.
