Description; Description: p5 BMW 540i E39 E62TU chain and guides install VANOS reset special tools cam, TDC tools installed. Reset VANOS, verify VANOS home position with continuity tester, installing cam holding blocks and crank TDC pin for correct engine timing. With all 4 sprocket bolts loosened 1/4 turn from snug, remove tensioner arm slack by pulling up on tensioner arm about 10 lbs with hand, and turn adjusting screw on special tool with finger to snug. And use special vanos tool and a continuity tester lead on any one of 3 pins on vanos and other lead on vanos sprocket tooth. Rotate vanos special socket counter clock-wise until continuity is observed on meter tester. To purge oil out of vanos and return it to bottom out position. Tighten VANOS intake sprocket and then exhaust sprocket with a T-55 torx bit to 30 ft. lbs. or 40 NM Left threads, bank 5-8 and then 1-4 the same. Pull TDC flywheel pin and cam align blocks, rotate engine 2 full turns and reinstall TDC pin and cam align blocks again. Adjust slack in tensioner arm by pulling on arm moderately and adjust special tool screw finger tight again. Loosen all 4 cam sprocket bolts and repeat vanos alignment with continuity tester again. Tighten intake sprocket to 110 NM. and exhaust sprocket bolt to 125NM, while holding cams on their hex heads with 1 1/16 or 27mm wrench. Bank 5-8 and 1-4. Do not stress cam alignment square ends or special block tools by not holding cams in place. Use tester to verify both vanos have continuity on test pins at TDC. Done
