Everybody loves the Suzuki DR-Z400 (and Kawasaki KLX400), one of the most legendary dual-sport dirtbikes on the market in the last 20 years. They are cheap, reliable, and a lot of fun. If you've been into these bikes for long, you have probably come across the 'Free Power Mod'. This is a known upgrade and improvement to the DRZ that can often pick up a 1Volt (or more) increase at the battery.

The key is bypassing lots of old wire and connections in the vehicles harness by connecting your stator directly to your voltage regulator, and your voltage regulator directly to your battery. This is the most direct and efficient way to get charging current straight to your battery for output and reliability.

We use our renowned RMSTATOR series voltage regulator, which lowers temperatures and prolongs stator life, in addition to our premium wiring harness. It has a plug and play connector directly to your stator, and wires with ring terminals for a direct battery connection.

In this video, Evan shows you a suggestion of how to mount your new regulator and attach the harness. Keep in mind there is no great location on the DRZ for a larger regulator, the frame is packed tight with the motor. We highly suggest mounting the regulator to your airbox under the right side cover, but it is up to you. The harness provides plenty of length to mount on either side of the bike.
