Описание к видео Recap of the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season: Weather IQ

The 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season was one for the record books with 21 named storms. That's the third-most on record, and 2021 was also the third time the full alphabetical list of storm names was completed.

Seven of the 21 named storms became hurricanes in 2021, with four major hurricanes. A major hurricane is a category 3 or stronger, meaning sustained winds are at least 111 mph. Those storms included Hurricane Grace, Hurricane Ida, Hurricane Larry and Hurricane Sam.

First Warn meteorologist Chris Mulcahy recaps the season, the estimated damage caused by these storms and more.

Hurricane Ida was the most devastating storm of the 2021 hurricane season, hitting the Louisiana coast with wind speeds of 150 mph, 25 mph stronger than Hurricane Katrina. Ida also hit the Gulf Coast on the anniversary of Katrina, Aug. 29. At one point, Ida's powerful winds and storm surge actually caused the Mississippi River to flow backward.
