My patients often ask me, “ Is it true that welding light should not be seen directly with the naked eye as it can cause some damage to our eyes”?
Yes, this is absolutely true. Welding light consists of UV Light which can damage the outmost surface of the eye, the Cornea. This may result in mild pain, watering, and inflammation in the eyes.
Although these symptoms can be treated easily with the help of some medicines and patches. But these symptoms occur quite frequently due to frequent exposure to welding light, it may even cause permanent damage to the cornea.

अक्सर मेरे पेशेंट्स मेरे से पूछते हैं कि “डॉक्टर साहब हमने सुना है कि वेल्डिंग की लाइट को directly नहीं देखना चाहिए, इससे आंखों में कुछ नुकसान हो सकता है, तो क्या ये बात सही है”?
ये बात बिल्कुल सही है। वेल्डिंग की लाइट में एक बहुत ही harmful component होता है जिसको हम लोग कहते हैं UV Light और ये लाइट जो है हमारी आंखों की यह जो बाहर की सतह होती है, जिसको हम लोग ‘काली पुतली’ कहते हैं, उसको जला देती है या उसको damage कर देती है। तो अक्सर पेशेंट इस तरह की complaint देते हैं कि “डॉक्टर साहब हमने सुबह के टाइम वेल्डिंग को देखा था और कुछ घंटे बाद हमारी आंखों में तेज दर्द, पानी और लाली बन रही है”।
इसको ठीक करना तो बहुत simple है, कुछ दवाइयां से या कभी-कभी आंख में पट्टी करके इसको ठीक करा जा सकता है, लेकिन लंबे समय तक अगर बार-बार ये प्रॉब्लम होती रहे तो आंखों में permanent damage भी कर सकती है।
