The HSE has launched an update to National Clinical Guideline No. 26 on Sepsis Management for adults including maternity care. This update was led by the National Clinical Effectiveness Committee (NCEC) and reflects the latest international best practices.

This update will ensure that sepsis treatment in Ireland remains evidence-based and aligned with global standards.

One of the key updates involves changes to the timeframe for administering antibiotics based on the severity of illness at presentation. This ensures:
• rapid treatment for those who need antibiotics urgently.
• reduced risk of unnecessary antibiotic use for those who may not have sepsis.

In line with the updated guidelines the HSE’s National Sepsis Team has developed a comprehensive training and education programme for all hospitals. The HSeLanD sepsis training has also been updated.
