→ Join me aboard a now-defunct service aboard United mainline aircraft as we traverse the skies between San Francisco and Tucson (my most frequented route to date) on the baby-bus, aka. the Airbus A319! Despite flight loads being rather decent, United decided not to bring this route back on mainline aircraft after October 2025. As far as our airline schedules show, it will not be returning in the future, either :( It was fun while it lasted, though! We begin at San Francisco's gate D15 and push back. Now that United has practically taken over a good portion of the D gates at SFO, the taxi runway 1L was quick and easy. We were pretty light this particular day, so this Airbus A319 rocketed skyward and climbed steeply, making precise turns to comply with the SSTIK5 departure — which is, arguably, one of the most scenic departures out of SFO, if you are sitting on the 'A' side of the aircraft. We climb to a cruising altitude of 37,000 feet and hang out over the state of California for a good portion of this flight, before entering the state of Arizona, initializing our final descent, approaching Tucson from the northwest, then getting expertly guided towards TUS, landing on runway 12 rather firmly, and taxi to gate A7, where my coworkers marshal our aircraft into the gate and prepare to turn it around.
